Day’s End in Laguna

Rocklin?  In my heart I’m in So Cal…just north of Las Brisas in Laguna.

StrategyCentral Turns 3 Years Old

I started blogging 3 years ago.  Amazing how fast these 3 years have gone.  A lot has happened.  Good stuff.  I’ve met a lot of great people through the blog.  While there might have been a few times when the anarchist in me came out (not the Antichrist), for the most part there’s just been a hint of organizational dissident.

Thanks for coming along!  It’s always good to know you’re still here.

Twitter? Anyone? Anyone?

What do you think about Twitter?  Are you trying it?  Have you thought about it and put it off?  Are you thinking, “Twitter?  Is that some kind of bird call?”

I’m trying it.  A little tough getting into the swing of putting up useful tweets.  Not hard at all putting up ridiculous tweets (I’m in the back yard with Max…the dalmatian).  But is that a ridiculous tweet?

If you’re using it…how are you using it?  If you’re reading this in India…what do you think about it?  And while we’re on the subject, if you want to get the latest tweet you can get it right here.

4 Cs of Blogging

Getting into blogging and trying to figure out how to make it work?  David Armano over at Logic + Emotion (which is another business blog to check regularly) has a great post on the keys to influential blogging.  By the way, David’s got a

5 Things You Can Do to Get Writing Respect

One of my favorite bloggers to read is Valeria Maltoni.  Some great insight into a variety of topics.  Tripped across one of her posts over on Blog Herald.  Here are her five things a blogger can do to generate respect.

  • Make innovation part of your creative habit; put aside some time every day for “what if” thinking.
  • Reward the hard questions. When a reader challenges your
thinking, take that as an opportunity to address their questions, make
sure they know they’re heard. You get respect when you give it.
  • Work on the quality of your writing constantly. Practice,
practice, and then practice some more. It’s also a good idea to read a
lot. Read the classics; read good writing.
  • Think design as container of experience. How can you have a visual impact? How can you communicate your value through design?
  • Be transparent and trustworthy. Conduct a personal audit regularly to keep yourself honest.

A very challenging list.  I know I’ve got a book or two in me.  I’ve already bought the domain names.  How to execute?  I think these two posts are probably at the root.

Check ‘em out.  What do you think?

Can You Make the Complex Simple?

One of the real joys of the last 2 years has been running across great thinkers around the blogosphere.  Some days I scroll all the way thru my Google Reader and find nothing…but most of the time there is just some thinking by the author of one of my feeds that is so cool, really good.  Steve Roesler is one blog I’ve been checking for a while that really is very consistent.  Lot’s of good ideas.  Today’s post is a good for instance.  Take a minute.  Check out his post, Can You Make the Complex Simple?   What do you think?  Good right?

I’ve had a few posts on the subject.  Particularly like the Drucker quote in this one.

I’m making a note of the Einstein quote: "It is impossible to detect the motion of a system by measurements made within the system."

News from the Patio

A1a_2
Sunday afternoons (and into the early evening) are some of the best times going.  Out on the patio with Maxwell Dog.  Jimmy Buffett’s A1A playing softly in the background just barely above the water gurgling in the barrel fountain.  71°F at the end of a beautiful, perfect day in So Cal.  Good times.

Sometimes the best part about Sunday afternoons is tripping across interesting new technologies.  May not be new to you, but Jott has some real potential.  Heard about it over on Duct Tape Marketing. Ever been in a speeding car and had an idea that needed to be captured RIGHT then?  Maybe an idea for a blog post, or a memo that needed to be written, or for that matter a reminder to get something done first thing in the a.m.?  Jott allows you to speed dial a phone number, talk after the beep, and bingo…sends a transcript to your email.  Very cool.  This is too good.  Must be a catch, but I haven’t found it yet.  I’ll let you know how it turns out.  In the meantime, Jimmy’s singing A Pirate Looks at Forty, one of my all-time favorite songs.  See you later.

The Albert Einstein Approach…

I’m a fan of Albert Einstein.  Just a fascinating character.  Whether you’re a fan or not, you need to check out The Albert Einstein Approach to Successful Blogging.  It’s not really about blogging…just applies 5 important principles that explained Einstein’s accomplishments.  What are the principles?  Here’s the list:

  • Persistence and stubborn tenacity were tools of change for Einstein.
  • Einstein connected and applied things in ways others had not tried.
  • Rather than one emphasis only, Einstein cultivated many intelligences.
  • Imagination and fun added zip to most everything Einstein did.
  • Questions tracked Einstein’s day like maps guide a traveler.

Interesting…don’t you think?  You can check out the whole post right here.

Thanks to Copyblogger for the link to an interesting post!

coComment

I was answering a comment to Finding What You Can’t Not Do and it reminded me that some of you might not know about coComment.  If you are participating in the conversation here, or maybe at a number of different blogs, you ought to be using coComment to track those conversations!  Great resource.  It allows you to see what if anything has been said after your comment…as the conversation progresses.  Check it out!

Still Clicky After All These…Days

I posted about Clicky a few weeks ago.  If you’ve got a blog and you haven’t checked it out yet, you really need to see it.  There are several things about it that I just find fascinating.  First, it allows me to see how long readers of StrategyCentral are hanging around.  That’s cool.  It also shows the click progression, or where they go within the blog.  And I LOVE the fact that it tells me where in the world people are tuning in from!  That is really cool.  Today’s winner so far?  Vinius, Lithuania! Sveikas! Sveiki atvykę!  I think that says, “Welcome!” in Lithuanian ;)
