6:15 p.m.  Still 56°F here in Rocklin…can't hang on the patio though, rainy, windy, not so cal…by any stretch of the imagination.  So here I am in the dining room.  Not the patio.  Signs of the exile.

Tonight?  White Lightning Texas Chili (chicken, great seasoning, cannellini beans) and some jammin' cornbread with jalapenos.  It'll be a good set up for tonight's airing of a new Jesse Stone mystery.  Good times…even in exile.  Wish you were here.

5:15 p.m.  Still 55°F out here in the garage.  Note the location.  Should mention that I was down in the OC this week and in so cal…it's already spring.  'Course…it's never really not spring there…except when it's summer.  Drove by our house…heart pangs…when I saw the bouganvilla and the agave along the path at Saddleback…I've got to say my heart broke just a little.  Here in Rocklin, it's not dead, just not bird of paradise and pink pearl bouganvilla.

Tonight?  Leek and potatoe soup with a great focacia style cheesy bread.  Fitting for a still winter day in Rocklin.

5:00 p.m.  Still 63°F out here on the patio.  Listening to a little 24 Nights by Eric Clapton.  Great live performance from London’s Albert Hall.  Very, very good.

Tonight?  Fajitas!  Definitely a day for it.  Warm enough to be out on the patio in January.  Good times in Rocklin.  Wish you were here!

4:30 p.m.  56 degrees on the patio here in Rocklin.  Me and Maxwell chillin' in more ways than one (76 degrees down in Rancho Santa Margarita).  Listening to a little Hell Freezes Over. Didn't see the connection when I put it on.  I know there are many of you reading this who are somewhere colder…but hey!…what's a so cal boy to do?

I do have one thing going for me though.  In about an hour we'll be sitting down to the jammin' fish tacos with the awesome chipotle tarter sauce and smokin' cole slaw.  Very, very good.  Wish you were here.

MUCH too cold to be on the patio.  6:10 p.m.  41 degrees.  Not down with the feel of that.  Also, the laptop has no sound for the 7th day in a row…so nothing happening on that front.  On the other hand, the salmon tonight will be awesome along with the sauteed asparagus and snap peas (a Barefoot Contessa recipe).  Good times ahead!

Are you up on twitter?  If you aren't, this is a great time to jump in.  Whether you are or not, you can follow me right here.  Come on in!  It's where the party is going down!

Sunday afternoon.  4:00 p.m.  47 degrees and rainy.  We’re not in so cal anymore.  Listening to a little David Cook and surfing my google feed reader.  Picked up a good tidbit from Ben Arment over at History in the Making.  Seems U2 has a new project due out on March 3rd!  That is worth putting on the calendar.  No Line on the Horizon is the working title.

Heading over to Bayside tonight to catch one of their Christmas Eve services.  Ours don’t kick in until Tuesday night.  Bayside is home to Lincoln Brewster, so the music should be jammin.  Speaking of jammin…I was briefly on the stage today at Adventure lip syncing to O Holy Night as a kind of preview for our service.  Here’s the version:

Inside Looking Out

Gumbo
Sunday afternoon.  5:10 p.m.  40 degrees.  Feels like 31.  I'm inside looking out…at the patio.  For this So Cal boy…hardly an acceptable way to spend a Sunday afternoon.  On the bright side, Debbie's jammin' shrimp gumbeaux is simmering.  There's a loaf of sourdough bread ready to go in the oven.  Moral of the story?  Even in exile there's a bright side!  Wish you were here…unless where you are is warmer.
