One of my favorite stops on the blog trail is 800-CEO-READ.  In today’s post there is a link to an excerpt from Results: Keep What’s Good, Fix What’s Wrong, and Unlock Great Performance.  The first chapter hooked me!  I’ve already ordered it from Amazon.  It looked that good.

One thing that hooked me is the idea that organizational dna determines how your organization functions.  According to Neilson and Pasternak, four organizational building blocks – decision rights, information, motivators, and structure – “largely determine how a firm looks and behaves, both internally and externally.”  With a look at those four pieces the authors determine an organizational type (unhealthy or healthy) that is modifiable with a kind of gene therapy!  There’s even a cool Org DNA Profiler on their website that will help you diagnose your organization!  Very cool.  Check it out!

What do you think?

Out.

P.S. If you want to get a jump on learning about organizational DNA, you can take a look at two downloadable pdf files on Booz Allen Hamilton’s website.
